2024 Halloween Costume Trends for Kids & Families

2024 Halloween Costume Trends for Kids & Families

Expect to see Deadpool & Wolverine, Inside Out 2, 2024 Olympics, election themed costumes and more.

There’s nothing more fun each fall than planning out your kiddo’s Halloween costume – or even a theme for the whole family.

According to Drive Research, 45% of consumers begin their costume planning in late September, while another 39% do so in early October.

Each year brings unique influences that shape the coolest and most creative costume trends – from blockbuster movies to pop culture and political references – and this year is chock-full of new ideas to inspire your costume making.

To help you plan out your Halloween costume, Young Eden has rounded up some of the biggest trends you can expect to see in 2024 for kids and families.

2024 Halloween Costume Trends for Kids & Families

Deadpool & Wolverine - One of, if not the most, popular films of 2024 will inspire costumes from both the main cast and breakout Marvel characters like Lady Deadpool, Dogpool, Blade, Gambit, Elektra, and Johnny Storm.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice - The imminent release of the anticipated sequel film will make for a great opportunity to bring back the iconic black and white stripe suit and face paint associated with the title character, as well as Lydia Deetz, and other characters.

Inside Out 2 - Emotions like Joy, Sadness, Anxiety, Embarrassment, and Disgust will all have a place this Halloween following the success of the animated Disney sequel released this year.

Despicable Me 4 - Gru, Gru Jr., Lucy, the Minions and the rest of the family offer a host of ideas to fuel your household Halloween costumes.

Bluey - The Heeler family remains a beloved cartoon cast that’s perfect for families to incorporate into their costumes.

Election Themed - From U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and Tim Walz to President Joe Biden, Donald Trump, and JD Vance, expect to see costumes reflecting the political climate of this election year.

Inflation Themed - There’s nothing scarier than the high prices of today’s economy. Expect to see some humorous plays on inflation costumes.

Celebrity Themed - There’s a lot of buzz that this year will see celebrity costumes for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, but you can also expect 2024 Olympic athletes like Simone Biles to make an appearance.

Of course you can also anticipate trendy films and characters from last year to continue to influence kid and family costumes – from Barbie (and Ken) to Wednesday Addams – along with timeless classics like Harry Potter, Spider-Man, Batman, Paw Patrol, Toy Story, Disney Princesses, and others. No doubt you’ll also still see traditional Halloween costumes like witches, vampires, ghosts, zombies and more.
